An internist's view of rheumatic disease

Work starts with listening: when the symptoms began, what mornings are like and which parts of the body are involved. These diseases do not stay in the joints, so the examination does not either.

Test results and images are then read together with the history and the examination. No single test decides, and a diagnosis sometimes takes time.

The aim of treatment is to control the disease, prevent damage to joints and organs, and keep ordinary life going. It continues with regular monitoring and follow-up.
